That stupid update took out the computer's ability to read SD cards entirely--the internal card reader and even USB plug-ins. It sees the drives, just won't read the cards. And by the time I discovered the problem there had been other updates, but MS puts a super short timeframe on how far back you can set the machine to "last known good configuration." And that's when I learned that the periodic backups I'd been doing weren't all that useful...just copying picture and document files to a separate drive. The standard backup doesn't have anything to do with the operating system, apparently.

Anyway, yes, I do believe that insulation strategy I'm using will keep the heat out when the AC is on in summer.

Interesting! I was able to use a USB 'converter drive'(sd reader/writer) to work around that PITA.

Perhaps the problem was affected by different bios of different manufacturers of the computers affected.

Whomever gets this craft after you are finished using it will get a gem.

I have zero intention of selling this boat...it'll be an odd viking funeral, what with the hull being metal and all. lol

The V-berth head (AKA the throne room) is coming along nicely. Insulating the back of each interior panel adds a lot of time to each one, but I think it'll be worth it.

Hey Roamer:

It's only a couple hour drive for me down to Solomon's Island area, so let me know when this thing splashes and I'll bring the champagne!

Sounds good!

The V-berth head (AKA the throne room) is coming together nicely. Another day or two on cabinetry, and we'll be ready to start the fiberglassing, fairing, priming, and painting.

More progress on the "throne room." Cabinetmaking is challenging...but I haven't screwed anything up so badly that it can't be fixed with epoxy. lol

My new AHP AlphaTIG 200X arrived earlier this month, so I've been messing around trying to learn how to TIG weld. After a very rocky start, things are looking better (if not professional-grade). I don't know if there's a world record for sticking the tungsten in the weld, but I've got to be getting close to breaking any existing record. At my age, learning to coordinate the filler dipping motion with the torch hand (and I've never had a smooth welding hand anyway), plus the foot pedal, and all those little dials and switches that adjust some very important things...it's been very challenging but super fun, too. I suppose for pros it gets to be just the same ol' same ol' daily grind. As a hobbyist, this is a real hoot.

But then, it turned out that my bandsaw wasn't big enough. So, I did what any right-thinking man would do and bought another new toy! lol

I'm putting in as much practice time with the new AlphaTIG as I can, but I'm also keeping things moving on the boat. I got the interior of the Throne Room side cabinet assembled and insulated, and I also insulated the hull-side wall panel. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm making and insulating a cabinet so I can install the portholes so we can splash the boat later this year and take it to my home port. Gotta keep my eye on the prize...

Roamer, I have been following this thread since the beginning. You have put many hours and much concentration into this project. It is a bit like building a house only this one floats. I admire your courage for taking on this project and sharing the steps along the way. What a fascinating journey. I hope you get to enjoy it more than you have put into it. May it serve you well for many years. Looking forward to the splash.

Thanks very much, Steve. I suppose like many people on the Shopsmith forum, doing the work is enjoyable to me. I know people who "invest" in season tickets for sports, brand new cars every couple of years, and other things that make no sense to me. We all find our enjoyment where we find it.
