Going to look at a used ShopSmith. What should I look for?

We aren't completely sure where our next move will be. My wife's residency in Billings is up in July. We expect to be somewhere new by August; likely in Colorado or Utah. We want to be close to good skiing and somewhere easily accessible to and from KY, where we are from and our family still lives. We hope to make a decision about where we will be moving in the next 6 weeks and then I will post again and start looking.

If you feel the seller will come down to $100-125.00 you may want to think about it. Just the two faceplates, live center and the two sanding discs are worth it.
At the very least, this machine could be converted to hold SPTs, a shortie or a down the road restoration project.
The machines break down to a small footprint of several boxes for moving...

Just something to think about!

Also, Go into your SS account and where the section for your location is, make sure it shows your area. Log out and log back in. Your location will then be visible to everyone...

Location updated, but will be changing again in the near future. I don't think he would go for $100-$125. But perhaps he would. He has an amazing shop with years and years of accumulation, and is planning a move across the state, so he might reconsider due to not wanting to pack it along with everything. It will be quite a project to move it all. I have a friend in town that might be interested in it if I pass, which is likely. We don't want to lowball the guy because it does work and does have some good accessories. If he comes down to $200 my friend may spring for it and we can give it the TLC it needs. Will update when we know more.



tomsalwasser, the headstock does work. To all: thanks again for the advice. I will update again when a decision is made. I will likely pass on this, but my friend may take a stab at it if the price comes down to $200 or less.
