Power Pro Delay in Shipping!

Post by jjbuzard »

Unfortunately there still is no end in sight for the resumption in shipping of ANY Power Pro system, I just got off the phone and they said the computer issue still is not resolved and they have no idea when it will be solved. I was hoping to do the Do It Yourself up grade , but I guess we will have to wait.Hopefully soon!
I was hoping my Mark V would be looking like this soon!

Yeah, I got an email about that a few days ago. I had sent in a request for a status update, as it was approaching the 2 month mark since I'd ordered and paid for the new headstock. I'm bummed, but on the other hand, I'd rather QC release fully vetted and functioning devices rather than getting a lemon and having to send it back.

My last one took 3 months so it can take a while even if they are not having any special issues.

So I wonder what the problem is that they are seeing, no hints?

Yeah Ed, and you also wonder what they changed. Software? I haven't been given a notice of upgrade (which I wouldn't do anyway as my PP is perfect :) ) Wonder what they changed?

Yes I am wonder that too. I have no issues with either of mine and they are the same software/firmware version but I still wonder what "other" things could be happening that we don't know about.

I don't really see how they would do an upgrade to an older machine in the field so I'm not expecting that to happen. Had they planned for such an occurrence? I guess we have seen evidence that some code can be altered via the key pad but it wouldn't take too big a change to make that impossible.

I agree, and with most computer driven devices now NOT using PROM chips but EPROM chips (meaning the first is hard coded and the other is programmable). If it is EPROM, "upgrades" can be done in the field, but with the PP system, it would be difficult.

I had not heard about code alteration in the PP. What have you heard/seen?

Does anyone know for certain that the sick computer is in fact the PowerPro controller. It could be a computer used elsewhere within Shopsmith.

All I know is that the Customer Service person told me the controller that runs the motor is screwed up and they don't know as of yet how to fix it (Not her exact words, but basically what she said.)

It must have been sitting too close to a PC that was getting a Windows update! :D
