I cannot buy from shopsmith directly as of yet except through a member of this forum and still shipping is not free.
I appreciate you input, I just wanted to see if I was forgetting something and I am just at the planning stage.
Lowes is buying Rona in Canada, maybe we will have some presentations coming to us like in Montreal, I am 3 hours from there.
Thank you again.
I totally understand. I was stationed at CFB Bagotville for 4 years in the 80's. However, we had the advantage of getting things from the states without customs.

Where are you exactly?
30 minutes north of Quebec city, our big neighbor is the military base of Valcartier. A good neighbor! I was not in the military.

You can get discounts various ways, plus a"free" SPT when you order through some of the channels. You could have the new Mark 7 for less than 4000 USD (unless the prices have dramatically changed). Food for thought ..... :)

Good point, the prices for individual upgrades add up quickly, the Power Pro Headstock is half the price of a new Mark 7.

JMHO you mention discounts through some of the channels, who would these channels be?

Has anyone ordered a complete machine through Lowes? What interests me about Lowes is they will ship to Hawaii with no extra charge, at least for the few SS parts they list online.

Welcome, I have not ordered through Lowes but I think from what I have read here if on a Lowes Card there is a 10% discount, at least here in the states. If I am wrong some one here will jump on me soon.

I would start by contacting Doug Reid. He may not be able to get the shipping thing, but he may know of a way to buy from Lowes directly. The 4K shipping is a joke IMHO. I priced shipping one of my Corvettes over a few years ago (not that many) and I was quoted 1000 dollars approx. I had to take the car to California to get it put in a container, but still. If you have anyone on the Mainland that could help, it might be an option to the shipping. Lowes shipping for free is intriguing as they probably ship over there all the time and a M7 would be a match in a matchbox to them....

Got to be a way ... (says the eternal optimist :D )

4000$????? or is that a typo??????
I mean I could fly from O Heira in Chicago to Honolulu for about 5-700$ one way and another 100 for ground shipping to his residence and those are guesstimates and I weigh 250. So how can they charge 4K to ship a boxed up SS on FedEx or an UPS 747?

SS said that when I asked about shipping to Hawaii - no joke!
Although I laughed when I read it. This is the entire response from SS when I asked how much shipping a new Mark 7 to Oahu Hawaii would be. This was before I found my used 510. I also asked about Washington State since we are planning on moving in couple of years when my wife retires. (not for the weather) ;)

to me
Good Morning,
The shipping charge on a Shopsmith Mark 7, which weights almost 300
pounds, to Hawaii is very expensive. Anywhere between $1700.00 up to
$4000.00. If the Mark 7 is shipped to Washington state the shipping
charge at the present time is $ 500.00.

If shipping to and from Hawaii was that expensive when I got the headstock for my Shorty, I would not have a Shorty. The headstock was gifted to me and I paid shipping from Hawaii to Tucson. I don't remember how much but it wasn't all that expensive.

I do not mind at all, I think this is interesting discussion and myself I have not dealt with the shipping aspect of it yet.
I cannot even consider going to Toronto to get it, because in Toronto, the do not have any power pro in stock, it is all ordered once or twice a year (my guess) and it may take the same amount of time for the store to await availability from SS that you guys mentioned.
Right now I am only dreaming of the possibilities since I read that the Power Pro is a good improvement.
I like to read what you guys are saying so keep writing.
