New member. Very impressed.
Just purchased a SS (Magna) Mark VII, S/N 409536. $100.
Can anybody tell me the year of manufacture? I think it's ~ '66 or '67.
It came with (I think) every attachment and most of the tooling except for the scroll saw.
Moderate to heavy rust on unpainted steel parts.
One Problem, Two Wants:
Motor runs in REW, Just hums when I push the FWD button, any thougths?
Need the small round throat plate for the bandsaw.
Would like a 5/8 dia. Saw arbor.

Since it runs in rev, the problem is likely the switch.

You need to check a couple of things.

The speed control cam needs to be examined to verify it is in usable condition.

The gear rack on the backside of the front way tube needs to be checked.

Does it have the vacuum impeller and housing?

A pix or ? will help us help you.

The plastic cam and gear rack seem in good shape.
Would like to replace with metal in the future.
The blower housing is there intact, but no impeller.
Right now my garage is pretty full, so fist project is a wood rack to get all the attachments off the machine and floor
I'm sorry, I'm not real computer savy and I'm using a first gen iPad, I could barly figure out how to post the original post and this reply, so pictures are going to be a while.

IMHO The main distruction of the plastic cam is the bearing failure of the follower to the speed changer. If rusted where you can see then it is rusted where you can't see. Knowing what I know now. I would tear it down replace belts check bearings and clean and oil shafts on motor and speed changer! Sounds like you have a good machine, probably mostly original parts (like the on off rev SW ) so take the time to clean and lube it and check bearings!
