1957 Greenie Restoration

I am going to start this post to cover the steps in restoring my 1957 Greenie, I hope to post updates daily or nearly so. So here is the start. This Greenie was originally owned by a friends Grandfather, he and her Father used it on the farm, they built many Hog Gates and Hog Crates with this unit, after her father retired,he passed it on to my friends husband who used it and in the early 2000's sold it to a friend of his, after he bought the 1954 SS I had refurbished and sold to him. I bought this Greenie from the person my friends husband sold it too, it had sat since 2007, when the Gilmer Belt broke after 50 years of use.

Step one is complete, the Bench and Base is dissembled, all small parts and fasteners have been placed in Labeled Zip Lock Bags.

All the pieces are waiting to be Soda Blasted, if the weather cooperates it will be done this week.

Exciting to see another restoration underway... I can hardly wait to see the soda blasting results!!!

I've been pondering the idea of purchasing one for cleaning up the aluminum parts. The results you achieve will be the deciding factor...............

Today hopefully the Headstock will be dissembled and weather permitting blasting will start. First I will build a cradel to hold the Headstock.

Dissambled the Headstock and worked on the color mixing formula, got the dark green perfected and got the basic formula for the light green, as soon as it is perfected in the morning I can start soda blasting, needed original pieces with good color to mix the paint and test samples on. Hoping for good weather tomorrow as I want to blast outdoors. As soon as I am done blasting will prime and paint. Stay tuned.

Maybe it needs to be in a separate thread but I would sure like to hear more about your soda blaster. I have a bunch of stuff that needs to be blasted but I can not afford what the shops charge.

Generally I am not a fan of Harbor Freight , but they do sell a pretty good soda blaster and sell soda, soda at HF goes for about $50 for a 50 lb bag and will ship it for $6.99 a bag.

I'm the same with HF. I'm not really a big fan of their products however, I've seen the soda blaster you are referring to and it's why I'm so interested in seeing how it works with your project.

The blaster is fairly cheap and we have a store just 13 miles away.
