I have a shaper fence that came with a used model 500 Mark V, so I am assuming the shaper fence is the older style meant to go with the 500 table. It does *not* match the one currently on the website exactly, and it does seem to closely match the Revised (not 4th) edition PTWFE pictures that I can see.
It has some corrosion, so I'm going to disassemble it and clean it up a bit. Also, some of the parts have some rust, so I need to Evaporust those and see if they are still usable or if they need to be replaced. Before I do that, however, I wanted to verify that my fence is complete.
Specifically, it looks like only one side of the fence is designed to have the turn knob to adjust the Z-axis of the fence (when standing facing the fence). Is there some different mechanism for the other side, or is it simply loosen the bolt and move that side forward or backward manually, either to make it parallel with the other fence, or to account for stock passing by the cutter when shaping the entire edge? It seems I would only really *need* that kind of precision adjustment on the infeed side of the fence, so it makes sense to me if that is the case here, I just wanted to confirm.
Secondly, what are the holes in the base for? I know on the Model 510+ shaper fences, the holes are used to mount the unit to the main table. In the model 500 shaper fence, it uses those L-shaped brackets to attached to the outside edges of the 500 table and tightens down there. The holes in the 500 fence don't even match the holes in my 510 table, and I don't have any holes in the 500 table. Anybody know what those are for?

Re: Shaper fence for Mark V 500
Thanks, Mike! Just what I was looking for. I didn't click on that one in my search as I thought it was only for a Mark VII, given the title.
So it appear the holes serve as storage space for the pins when not in use. Very handy!
It looks like no adjustment piece here--just the tube mounted on the fence. From what I'm seeing, it looks like mine is complete and matching JPG's.

Attached is the PDF needed to use the 500 fence on a 510/520. See last page for drilling instructions

There is an upgrade for the fence:
http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... grades.htm
There is also a drawing around here somewhere of how to use the old shaper fence on the 510/520 if you don't mind drilling it.
It looks like you have the rest of it figured out already.
Ed
Edit:
Looks like the modification has been attached already so you are good to go.

Re: Shaper fence for Mark V 500
Thanks, all! I actually plan on using this with the 500 table and a speed increaser on a shorty or shop deputy as a Mark V driven under table router, so I think I'm good to go at this stage. If I ever get the double tilt for my PowerPro, I'll look at fitting it to the 510 table.
