Right now I've got paste wax on the quill.
There's a Shopsmith devotee you've probably seen that raves about Johnsons Paste Wax in particular on the quill, and it sounded to me worth a shot even though using wax on machinery isn't something I'd normally consider.
I'll study on it a spell as I use it. Being as it's exposed to work dust and grit won't stick to wax as readily as it does to grease and oil.
Just got back from Friday Harbor Washington, so I haven't gotten back to winding my Quill spring tighter. Tomorrow maybe.
Funny but ya know how, when you're sleeping over in a new town and thinking about what you have to look forward to back home . . . you guessed it . . . looked forward to getting home to the new Shopsmith.
All my life I've loved 50's machinery and Shopsmith is sure worth it's salt.
Do you know what year my serial number 8443 would indicate?
Is mine the 8443 rd. Shopsmith ever made?
Or maybe the last digit of my Serial # is the Year
I'm hoping it is a '53 like my tractor and like my Chev 235 that's in my '51 Chev Step Van.
How many 10E's were made in 1947, 1948, 1849 . . . I'm being lazy.
