Great info on getting it out. A properly sized roll pin punch and good support did the trick.

When replacing the roll pin, should I just use vice grips and a hard rubber mallet to get it started or have you folks figured out a more effective method?

1) Make sure the holes align completely. +- 1/2 turn will guarantee failure!

2) Position the pin over the hole and try to start it manually, then gentle tapping(a small hammer will do) to get it well started.

3) Then squeeze it in. I prefer a machinist drill press vise, but channel locks will also work in tight quarters. Trick is proper direction of force(straight into the hole).

3a) It could be tapped in with that small hammer, but that risks mushrooming the pin(reason I said 'tapped').




They go in a lot easier than they come out! Alignment and directed force.

Make sure that you screw the handle on all the way. If I remember the handle and the threaded rod are drilled at the same time at the factory.
So if not on all the way the pin will be VERY difficult to install.
