got the rust removed from the tubes, but there is much pitting. I cleaned them and then put JPW on them. Slick as heck.

Now, onto stripping parts... lots of rust inside the headstock

Short answer: A woodworking power tool

Intermediate answer: A 5 function multipurpose woodworking tool collection.

Full Answer: A tool whose genesis came in the 1940's to fill a need for GI's returning home who were interested in building things, all sorts of things, even homes, and needed a set of affordable tools to get the job done.

That document in PDF form discusses in details the history, the inventor, the models through the years, and a bit about condition, service maintenance etc.

There are a series of large format exploded comparison parts views, links to a headstock improvement kit developed by Bill Mayo (one of my many mentors here) There are a host of those that include Dusty, JPG, Charlese, Reiable, Ed, Beeg, and the list of mentors goes very deep.

The larger question you didn't ask surrounds the massive knowledge that you can acquire freely here in these forums offered by folks who have been there and done that not only with Shopsmiths and Shopsmith SPT's (Special Purpose Tools) [add on accessories] that includes band saws, jigsaws, scroll saws, belt sanders, planers, biscuit joiners, jointers and tons of individual adaptations and modifications.

Did that answer enough of your question to let you know there's likely something here for you if you are into woodworking, whether you are fortunate enough to have a Shopsmith or another brand of equipment. It's all discussed here.

Thanks Dusty. If this fellow isn't serious, perhaps my comments still will help answer someone else's question who is just learning about Shopsmiths and has that very sort of question in mind.

well, started stripping paint and labels off headstock cover. painted the inside with a rust remover/inhibiter since it was thoroughly coated in rust. tried removing it but hard to get in corners so I took the lazy way out and kryloned it. actually looks pretty cool. now I just gotta finish the outside. I think i might hold off on the rest of the painting because the wood projects that NEED an SS are piling up fast. gotta build numerous shelves throughout the house to include my library.
