Going to show my most recent completion if I can figure out how to post a pic. I have made several of these and this one is somewhat sloppy. Lessons learned. Made only on a Shopsmith.

Here is a quick project I made for my mother in law. We spend 1 day each weekend at their place 80 miles away since her parkensons started hitting hard. I set up a MK 5 500 w/ scrollsaw for small projects at their place. Stained pine.

Flag poles. I'm looking at getting some flag poles, say 5 or 6 feet long and without flags. They also need to be cheap.

So I'm wondering if I just got some conduit and drilled some holes for ss eye bolts and some sort of ring to go from the flag to the eye bolt could I do this on the cheap? The flags are 3' x 5' and pretty light weight and would not be up all the time but might have to survive some weather....

Anyone done this or even thought about it?

The LDS church does that all the time around here. The same size flag I think. They use what appears to be 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 PVC pipe. They show up all the time in yards by the dozens on days that the flag should be displayed. I have no idea how they are secured in the ground but they are just stuck in the yards, stay for a few days and then removed.

John, it is the LDS Boy Scouts that do it, at least here in Arizona.
Yes, it is PVC pipe, but the holder in the ground is the real trick.

It is just a 8 inch piece of PVC, large enough for the flagpole
to fit inside it. That piece is driven into the ground, with a
sharpened steel rod inside it. The holder is placed so the top
is just below ground level, (You won't see it, unless you're
looking for it.)

A Boy Scout, walking down the sidewalk, can plant the flags,
without even slowing down.

Ah, the mighty portable hole! They're traditionally made of wrought iron, and are excellent for supporting period tent poles and banners!

I and my nephew got the same post card personalized for hats, T shirts ect, nice marketing touch, but since I am am not in business, or want commission work, to wear it to, I will pass on buying it for myself.

I got one also but haven't decided if I am going to get something or not.

My wife is getting into stain-glass. I'm a woodworker and we share a 1 car shop so when she has a project, woodworking stops. She wanted to make a pencil holder. I convinced her to use her scraps.
She has been nervous and apprehensive of her bandsaw. I figured this was a perfect project for it and grabbed the bull by the horns and took charge, LOL.
Some of the pieces so far.
I made that little jig as a template for all 4 sides.

Use shower curtain rings for the flags. We use them to hang those holiday decorative flags.

BTW, I use these in tool boxes in different vehicles to hold things like combination wrenches and box end wrenches together as well as different sizes of adjustable wrenches etc. in groups.

I like this idea! We have an old set of 12(?). My wife even knew where we stored them.

I stop at the hardware and got a piece of pvc pipe but the 3/4" dark version which comes in 5' lengths for $1.20. It might be too flexible and come to find out will not fit our flag holder..... Anyway some progress in the mental realm at least. It OK our Montana flag did get here today anyway.

You don't have to have business or do commission work to wear this stuff. I get tired of getting hats with Menard, Pep Boys or what ever name on them and then advertising for them.... so now you can have your own hat to wear that is more who you are. You will see far fewer of these hats then you will NACAR or what even else people are into.... I'm into woodworking and am wearing that, better then having someone say look at the old guy over there when they can say look at the woodworker over there......... granted the old guy fits but still.

I dont wear a hat much anyway, and NEVER one with Commercial Logo on it, even if it was free, and they usually arnt. I do like your point in your last sentence. I had one that said " Dysfunctional" on the front, one of my favorites when I did wear one. OBTW, staying dry???
