I switched from Open Office to Libre Office when it came out a couple of years ago. Libre Office is open source software while Open Office now is owned by a commercial entity. When Open Office went commercial, the contributors (software writers) pretty much all left Open Office and started Libre Office using their code they had written.
Now, Libre Office is running full bore with development while Open Office is lingering and possibly heading for a slow death.
Try Libre Office as it is the top dog today in open source office software.

Re: windows 10
I like Libre Office and have used it for several years. I run it under Linux and it serves me well. My office needs are pretty simple especially since I retired from daily business pursuits. I do use the outline function "a lot".
I do use one other writing program for some projects called FocusWriter. I "believe" that there is a windows version of it. I have read that it does not include a spell check but my version does have spell check. It is kind of a "different" writing software... Kind of simplified? It is normally used with all of the options hidden unless you shove the cursor to the top of the screen. You are looking at a soft paper-white screen with nothing else showing but what you are writing. It's just you and your words without a lot of crap you don't need there to distract you. The screen looks like a page of a book that has been published. I really like using it.
I have always disliked Microsoft from back in the DOS days. I ran MS-DOS 3.1 I believe but as soon as I found it I switched to DR-DOS (Digital Research) and liked it far better. It had a GUI of sorts for files that made keeping track of stored stuff much easier. I stuck with Windows through 3, 95, 98, 98SE, XP but got really disgusted with Vista and anything since (I have not tried 10 but do hear some good comments). I won't pay for it though, I don't see the point. I can download my choice of hundreds of different distributions of Linux and thousands of programs and packages all for free. I have to admit that the first 6 months years ago with various Linux OS's did put a lot of wear on the strongest parts of my vocabulary
but today there is so much information online you can find the answer to any question in minutes. Also the hard core Linux fans have backed off of wanting to keep it like some freaky club and now mostly understand that it has to be user friendly to be mainstream...
I do have one old desk box running Win-XP just for one special genealogy package and Diana's Book-Worm game.
I also have an old iMAC running OS-X just "because". Everything else is Linux. Sheldon Cooper and I like Ubuntu.
OK, the smart phones and the tablet are Android.
One last computer note... There are odd days when I am positive that Triple Peaks Solitaire absolutely hates me...

Re: windows 10
Back in the days I used only Microsoft as it was backward compatible and Apple was not. I really like MS-5 as you could make menu's in basic. Then I began to code in Visual Basic and Ashton -Tate dBase II and III. I also learned a really bastardized visual in Word, Access 7 and later and Excel. Talk of bloated software with pages rather than records. Ugh! Then I did some work in Oracle 8i and 8j. I loved every bit of Oracle but it was way too expensive. Visual Basic was so easy, but T-SQL was a nightmare. So after having most MS operating system through the years, Windows 8 has caused me to give up on pc's and have changed to Android devices. I send and receive emails with pictures, browse for items I may wish for or curious about, browse the forums and have no need for a computer anymore.
