It is model railroading done outdoors using "G" scale trains which are about twice a big as "O" scale Lionel trains. It allows me to combine some woodworking for building scale structures, some electronics for train control and sound effects, and some gardening and landscaping. My garden railroad is under construction in the backyard and probably will be for years.

I sure would like to see some pics of that outdoor train set up.

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them. :)

Farmer, you have me in envy with you "camp".
No JPG chiming in, I sure would like to hear his. Some of you amazed me with yours.
Mine were
Fishing
Boating
Hunting
Target shooting
Down hill skiing and racing.
Triathlons and Marathons, not sure if that is a hobby.
Cross country skiing
Tennis
Golf
Fine cooking, still is.
Now it is just
Wood working
Some machinery redoing, ERs mostly
Biking, again not sure that is a hobby.
Good/fine cooking
Finally, taking care of mom, I definitely know that is not a hobby, she is not a lot of work. I have some people in 2 times a week to help her shower, so really it is just doing her cooking, laundry, help in the morning, getting her up, and then to bed at night. It is work though because she is on a different time schedule then me so, lots of interruption of my time, but maybe thats good, not all happening at once.

I like trains too and always wanted a garden train. I'd like to see yours, if you don't mind sharing.

That's cool. I have som G scale trains as well, or rather my son does! He doesn't know we still have them! (He's 31) how do you keep the track from oxidizing outdoors?

Some of you have asked, so here are a few photos of what I am up to with my garden railway, The Camden and Mount Holly Railroad. Things are still very much under construction. I have a lot of work (hobby enjoyment) remaining with track, buildings, bridges, and plants, but I can run a train and a trolley.

Chris- the track does oxidize over time. It varies somewhat with the metal (I use brass rails) and your location. I clean my rail tops with a Scotchbrite pad when needed. Another solution that I have adopted is to use onboard batteries and not worry about it. The trolley and locomotives in the photos below are all battery powered.

Sorry about the picture quality, but "photography" is not one of my hobbies.
