WANTED: 510 or 520 Table Upgrade in Iowa

Post by slowdownandshave »

Hi everyone,

I recently inherited my Dad's Mark V and it has the 500 table system. I would like to upgrade to the 510 or 520 table/fence system and am interested in purchasing used. Any suggestions? I found someone in New Hampshire that has 2 setups for sale, but shipping is around $150 in addition to the $525 he is charging for the 510 upgrade which makes it a hard pill to swallow. I'm located in Iowa and would like to find something more local.

Any suggestions? I'm new to this forum so please let me know if this should be posted in another section. I didn't see a "wanted" or "for sale" section.

Thanks!

THERE IS NO "WANTED" OR "FOR SALE" SECTION ON THIS FORUM. The sponsor does not appreciate that activity.

This should give you a good idea of what the upgrade is going for.

Welcome to the forum! That's about an average price with shipping from what I've been seeing for a while. Do not give up on the 500 table system. I've been using mine with an in feed extention with great success. I also use a couple of in & outfeed supports. Watch your regional CL for deals. A little time watching and you'll see more than you think.

Ditto that, on CL it is in streaks here in Eastern WI, no SS for a few months, then bam, then all over the place, 6" jointers and nice Table Saws, same things.

Dusty gave you the wrong link. This is what it will cost you to upgrade from a model 500 to a model 510 buying from Shopsmith.

http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/500to510.htm

Add another $125 to upgrade to the 520.

I have been using the original 500 table system for the past 35 years. It is still a good table system.

That link looks more like it 500 to a 510, not a 510 to a 520, but I just use em, I dont analyze em, and proud to say, I never put a table saw blade on any of them. :)

Thanks for the reply. What are the "in feed extension" and "in & outfeed supports". Are those from Shopsmith or did you make them yourself? I'm mostly looking to upgrade the table system because the 500 table saw work table seems so small as to be dangerous. I'm used to working with more traditional table saws with larger tables.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. I'll keep my eyes peeled on craigslist for SS accessories. I have seen some, but nothing on there now in my area. What accessories would you recommend to assist the 500 table system?

Correct. OP said they owned a 500 not a 510.

I do not break down 4x8 sheet goods on the Shopsmith. I use a straight edge and a circular saw. I do break down items up to 4x4 or so. Here is my typical setup for those.
