Dissapointment of Sorts with MS

Post by dgreen810 »

So you will know the facts let me begin by saying I purchased a 500 to 510 table upgrade from SS on 11 Nov. 1986. It was complete as far as I knew at the time. As time went by, I didn't use the SS much at all and never had a need for a floating table until several years later at which time I realized that I not only didn't receive two, but didn't even receive one. I called the MS this morning to see if they would work with me to secure at least one. I was told if they could locate a sales record, they would get back to me. Good luck with that since they don't have any records beyond 1996.

Now for the "Shocker". They have no record that I have even bought anything from SS prior to 1996. They have no record of my account number 1743655. I have a stack of invoices from SS for purchases made prior to 1996. Sounds a little like Hillary's email deletion to me. With the digital processes we have today, can someone tell me why any company would delete any records???

Maybe when I purchased my up-grade, floating tables was not part of the "Package", but you would think they would be able to check to see what was included in the "Package" at that time. It seems strange I did receive the telescoping legs which are more or less useless for anything except for use with floating tables. Go figure???

I guess it's off to eBay to see if I can buy a floating table or two. I am not buying one from SS if I never get one.

Sounds to me and I am just speculating, in 96 they did some computer/record system change and never carried over previous records.

I've been a customer since 1976 but when I look at my records online the earliest I see is 2001. I would guess that they were not on any computer system or on a home brew sales system in the early years so it would not migrate or would have had to be hand done to get into a more modern system. So it doesn't surprise me that the records only go back so far.

I don't have access to my catalogs but perhaps someone else does and they could look up that year and see what the system should have come with. I don't think it ever changed but I could be wrong.

Now I don't know what kind of records you keep but I personally could look up checks/charges back that far if that would be acceptable to them I don't know but it could be proof that you did in deed order what you said you did.

You should also have gotten a packing list with your system. You should check and see if you still have that and if the missing parts are indeed on the list. They did sell a 505 system that came without the extension tables and tubes/legs, is it possible that is what you purchased?

I gotta ask! In that stack of pre-1996 invoices that you have, do you have a copy of the Nov 1986 invoice that would show that you purchased the table upgrade? Surely you do.

Now, does anyone here on the forum have a catalog that goes back to 1986. If so, then it will be a simple task to determine what was to be included n the upgrade package.

Lesson learned: When receiving a mail order purchase it would be very prudent to conduct an inventory of items received and compare that to the list of items paid for.

 WOW, 1986 (thirty years ago) and just now realizing. --- Hey, I don't have a floating table for this table saw that I bought back then.

Wasn't that back when Reagan and Gorbachev were such buddies?

Can you check that you've found both boxes of the upgrade (my recollection is that the 500 to 510 upgrade came in 2 separate boxes then, but I'm not sure which one the floating tables would be in). I did verify with an old (1987) catalog that my memory that floating tables were always supposed to be in the upgrade was correct.

Please send a PM to me with more of your account details (address, phone number that might have been in use them, and email address in case it was later added to the account), I'll see if I can help the process along.

Although their year was off, they are correct about older records. We changed systems in 1994 and the people involved back then copied over only 1 year of history, the rest of history is effectively lost. To be fair to the people involved then, disk space was more expensive back then.

Disk space isn't like that now. A couple of years ago when we upgraded to a new server, the whole order/customer history since 1994 was moved to the new server using a usb reader/micro-sd card and didn't use but a small percentage of even that space. :)

Attached is a copy of the original packing slip of the purchase you requested. Kinda hard to read but should not be too much of a problem for a Smart *&^. yes it's been thirty years, but So What! If I got shorted, I got shorted. Like I said if they include the Telescopic legs what in the hell were they supposed to be used for? Surely a genius like you should know the answer.

Surely you jest! You want me to look for a "Second Box" of a shipment made 30 years ago?? If you look at the copy of the packing list posted above, it shows two items were shipped. The upgrade table and a 5/8" arbor. I don't remember if the arbor was in a separate box or not. Based on your statement, it would appear I was shorted a box if the upgrade should have been in "Two" boxes. In any case I do not nor have I ever had a floating table for my SS.

I'm only trying to help.

The invoice you posted is for the main table upgrade and didn't include the extension tables. Normally a 2nd item/box would have been ordered at the same time (555135 which would have included the floating tables and telescoping legs). The pdf posted didn't show the 2nd item. Was paperwork showing the other item included in any copies you kept?

Not that I recall. It's just been too long ago. However, why did they include the telescopic legs? It just doesn't make any sense if at least one floating table wasn't included?? Further, item 555135 is clearly on this packing list??

I agree, the telescoping legs are what has me puzzled. As near as I can tell they were NOT part of the 555135 listed on you invoice, but WERE part of 555137 which would have been the box with the floating tables.

In any case, send a PM to me with your info (address, email, best guess of the phone number back then), that should help me locate any details we still have. I'll see what I can find to help us work toward a fair solution for you.
