Well this 1985 came to my shop for the right price, and it came with a Band saw, that will be another project. The BS is actually in better shape than the Shopsmith. The end results of this will be a Dedicated Drill Press with about 18" Bench tubes and full way tubes like jsburger did. It looks like it has sat in a lean to or a very wet machine shed, but it does run smooth, but the bearings will be checked and replaced as needed. Think I need to put new bearings in the motor?

well he wanted 350 for it, and once I saw it I said no way, I'd give 100 but he said his best was 150, then I realized he had the Band Saw included and I agreed. The picture on Craigs list, if it was this machine, was YEARS ago. The band saw is in much better shape, but the band wouldn't turn at all because the blade was so rusty, cleaned it up and it runs great with a new blade in it, I was concerned at first, but it turned out to be the blessing in disguise.
Change of plans, this 85 is too good to be made into a dedicated drill press, so we are going to take the 1954 and turn it into the dedicated drill press.
I agree, the greenie would make a great DP or shorty, and plenty of power with the 3/4 HP motor. Redo the grayling into the major machine. Looks like Aluminum Oxidation but funny on a painted Aluminum not raw, definitely not rust. I would take a green Scotch Pad and rub it a bit and see if it flakes off.

Only thing that makes a better dedicated DP or lathe is an ER with a speed changer, on low end 425-1200 rpm, any others then a PP Digital is 700ish on the low end.
