Hand Delivered ER and shop pics for Dusty

Post by ERLover »

This Er is so clean, and came with that ToolKraft Shaper, with the pipes that slide into the Way tubes to support it. This old farmer was very inventive, his son said he made up a lathe that was 14ft long.
Take a good look at the pulley set up with the Speed Changer I think some thing is wrong there, but I have not spent anytime looking further into it today.
My new CL shop at moms except for the DeWalt Sliding Compound Miter Saw, and the table/fence on the Router table that I bought used, with a Rockler top and fence and Bosh router, that I put on that MLCS top and fence I bought this fall, and 2 work benches. Will sell the Rockler Router top. All for about $1200, and the Miter Saw was 400$. Pics tell the story of what I bought.

Both pulleys should be a 2"x3"x4". The spindle pulley has an odd sized id(matches the spindle shaft).

The motor pulley(also 2x3x4) has the motor shaft sized bore. With the speed changer, the motor pulley is reversed.

Yep it is not 'OEM',

JPG, I totally agree, he made many mods and things, according to his son. The motor pulley is most likely original, the spindle shaft is not, I will pick one up from the Hog Winslow or MKC Tools.
$200 + 20$ to deliver it was deal, but they were coming to Milwaukee for the weekend.
He has a 510 that for what he cuts is under powered, I suggested the Power Pro up grade, he knew nothing about and the options how to have it done, he has deep pockets, 2nd home on a lake in the Stevens Point, Wi area. He said thank you, I will check it out. A really down to earth guy, plus at dads farm they had a sale not an auction, if you look at the pic Lyall posted, there was a price tag hanging on the spindle handle, it was still on it when we pulled it out of his Mini Van and he took it off B4 I could see it, I am sure my his demeanor it was $200. Life is good, but now for Skou!!! :p

JPG is correct. Both head stock and motor pulleys are 3 step from the OEM. The motor pulley/shaft is standard 5/8" size and available today. The head stock drive sleeve shaft is an odd ball size 13/16" and I have not found a pulley for it anywhere. However, Skip makes them so they are available.

So yes the head stock pulley on your machine is not OEM and the motor pulley is on backwards for the speed changer. The motor pulley is correct for a single belt but it should be turned around with the large diameter next to the motor for the speed changer. That is OEM but you can get different speed ranges with different pulley configurations. Since the original owner was creative I suspect that is why it is the way it is.

BTW, I can send you a copy of the speed changer manual if you need it. PM me with your email address and I will send it.

Not so John as far as Skip just told me about 10 minutes ago, an option from the MS, the 2 step HS pulley, and the reason why, a little known piece of info.
I have it posted in my thread over in Maintenance, for guesses and research B4 I tell all.
John I have it from over at Vintage Machinery, but thanks for the offer.

The reason why is in the manual page I posted in your other thread.

Ya John according to the MW catalog and Skip the 2 step pulley was an option so if cross cutting something that extended over there like a 2x?x?, take off the pulley guard, and the table saw table could be set at a height to cut it, and not be interfered with the 3 step pulley. I hope that made sense.
