I have been offering this space saving solution with a similar capability to the Shopsmith Shop Deputy Work Center Conversion Kit with an added base, base arm, tie bar and headrest included, only needing a Mark V headstock for a full MINI functionality. You only need a 12" X 38" area to use as a MINI Power Station or 12" X 48" area if you want to have a drill press capability. I had one mounted on a 2" X 12" board with a couple of 2X4s attached to the wall so you could store other items under the Shopsmith. You could use longer tubes for a SHORTY or use the regular length tubes. This can be mounted on a bench or a table. Please contact me for more information if needed.

These opinions are why I ask. :)

Great responses. So I am guessing my actions will be to make a shorty, take apart and store the power stand (or see if my father in law wants to use it), and use plugged emt as tubes, while storing the originals for the ability to bring it back to its full glory.

Has anyone made a small shorty version of an under shopsmith storage cabinet? With that I could really justify the space for it. Just not sure how much actual space there would be.

Galvanized fence posts are an alternative to using EMT.
