Does anyone know of a drive center adapter for a SS that will provide a 1" X 8 tpi with a Morse #2 taper--much like a traditional mid-size lathe?

I don't think it would be it would be practical. To get the depth needed for the 2MT socket it would be sticking out so far from where the bearing support is that you would get excessive run-out and chatter.

What are you trying to mount?

There are most likely different ways to achieve your goals that are compatible with the Shopsmith configuration.

The Shopsmith Drive Center (item "A" in this link http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... enters.htm" has a 5/8 bore, mounts directly on the spindle and is secured with a set screw.

The centers that mount on the tailstock are all #2 MT but everything that mounts on the headstock is 5/8" smooth bore.

If you already have faceplates that are 1" X 8 tpi there are adapters available.

If you enjoy turning and get a scroll chuck they will usually come with a drive spur that mount in the jaws but I wouldn't go that way till you see how you like turning.

Thank you. I am pretty active in turning--use a midi-lathe (Jet 1221 VS) for smaller items. Have never really like the mounting options for between centers on the SS--perhaps it is just me. As I move into larger bowl turning am exploring SS options. Thanks again. Eric
