Wanted a drill press for fathers day . . .

All,

I'm blown away by how helpful all of you were. Since my wife had already set up a time to go see it, I drove over this morning. Armed with all of your advice and competing adds, I suggested that I'd be eager to buy it at $150, expecting him to bargain me up to $250.

Turns out he inherited it from an uncle and doesn't do any wood working, so he accepted my offer on the spot.

So, now it's downstairs and I get to spend fathers day figuring ti all out!

I guarantee you will love this machine. If you were just looking for a drill press and wound up with a Mark V, it's like going to buy a VW and coming home in a pickup.

Not quite, a Mark V is at about 700rpm at low speed, and yes a veritable speed increase with out belt/pulley changes, which are a PITA on most DP.
But that ER with the Speed Changer on the low end is I think, and JPG will nail me to the wall. 425/450rpm to about 1200ish with variable speed in between, no belt/pulley changes. That is why I now have 2 of them,for DP.

I just think for wood bits, Fostners Ect 700 rpm is to fast, my Foestner bits have a max rpm rating on them,, and many are in the 400 range. I even wish I could my ER DPs into the 2-300rpm range.
