I wouldn't have guessed at a battery operated table saw but hey here it is.

Why not batteries! This town Lancaster, CA) has a manufacturer of battery powered buses. The 60 foot bus is articulated and has a range of 350 miles. Their 40 foot bus has a range of only 150 miles.

They have been bought by the city of Los Angeles. The city also has installed circular things in the pavement in select locations that the bus can stop over and the batteries will be re-charged. No plug ins.

Lancaster also has some of those battery chargers installed in the street. At this time Lancaster only has two of those 40 footers.

So - a 60 volt battery to run a table saw is no surprise here.

I bet like some of the electric cars when breaking, it is sending a charge to the batteries, I am not sure if the saws are that safisticated or have that large of a battery for sustained use.
10 years ago I hade an 18v 5" circle saw, it was fine as long as the blade was sharp, handy in the right place, and I know they have come a long way since then.

If I was still doing finish carpentry full time I would definitely be considering upgrading. Service calls woulda been a little quicker. I bet the dust collection on the miter saw is still horrible though.

I just worry about where all the batteries go, phones, TV,DVD controllers, Lap Tops ect. I know you can recycle them, but how many do.

Interesting thing about Dewalts announcement of new power tools. The batteries each have 15 cells, the cells are wire together both in series and parallel depending on which terminals are used. One tool may have the cells in parallel for 20 volts and 9 amp hours, like in a drill. Other tools have the cells in series for 60 volt and I think ?? 2 amp hours such as circular saw. There are also some tools that take two battery packs for a total voltage of 120 volts. Lastly there is battery pack adapter that allows the tool to be plugged in.

Plus if you missed it Milwakee announced new outdoor tools (avail 2017) that use brushless motors and high amp hour batteries. Said to be professional quality and capabilities.

Interesting developments in the world of tools and batteries!

It's just amazing to me the strides made in battery life and efficiency.
We have a Ford hybrid and it's batteries are supposed to last 200,000 miles.
I've had to have one battery rebuilt in my ancient (big and blue) Makita drill. The newer (black and white) are still good after about 8 years.

There's no doubt that full size saws of all configurations are just around the corner. The Power Pro seems to be a good candidate for a conversion to battery. Maybe dual power?

I wonder what types of machines Izzy Swan would make with 120v! Dunno if I've seen him use much Dewalt though.

The PowerPro will most likely already run on DC. Anywhere from 140VDC to 340VDC.

The first thing an electronic motor drive does is take the incoming AC voltage and rectify it to DC, so they are generally happy with a DC input as well. The input polarity doesn't even matter, because the rectifier will flip it whichever way it needs to.

For that matter, you can fairly easily convert most any stationary tool to run on battery power. Just replace the motor with a three-phase motor, and hook it up to a VFD. And now it's variable speed, with soft start and dynamic braking.
