I have been working in all functions for two weeks now, had it in drill press mode running the router, turned it on (pushed the green on button), heard a loud pop and arc sound and now nothing. Won't even turn on.
After reading some of the other threads here lately, I am beginning to wonder ....
I like it's functions, but this is not reliable ....

If you have not been back to look at it I would do so now. It is possible the large capacitor went and if so it will be dripping oil....... best done in the horizontal direction with something to absorb it.
Could have been another component but the loud pop might indicate the cap....... if so you might well have seen some "steam" coming out as well from the oil getting on hot parts.
Did you get to call shopsmith or was it already to late?

No Ed, they were closed, but I sent them an email. I will call fist thing in the morning. No oil, smell, smoke, nothing, just a pop and simultaneous arc sound and the controls are dead. With their blessing, I will open it up tomorrow and see what I see.
Have you had this problem? Have you heard of it before?

Not to be a Jack Ass, and down play your frustration with the PP and others here with theirs, I am old school but yes can appreciate new technology, I will stay with my ER and greenies. I have a grayling at moms, and a friend gave me a grayling a few years back, it had a bad bearing some place, moved and sold it to a guy disclaiming that with a Goldie HS that was OK.
My Ers are original, and greenies and nephews greenie oil, on his and a Lathe guy with it, mounting his ER with a SC this week!!! belt changes about 3 years ago on mine, Oh I did upper bearings in mine as long as doing the belts. I feel your pain, frustration!!

It was jealous of the greenie/goldie and all the attention it was getting!

I called SS this morning. A meeting will be held with engineering this early PM and they will get back to me.
My only uncomfortable zone right now is what would I be looking at 6 or 8 years from now. Currently it is under warranty (2 years old) but that will not always be the case. I LOVE it's power and it's flexibility, but there are better ways (I am learning) to do over-table and under-table routing. I like using a SS for those processes, kind of justifies the purchase of these, but I am a little uncomfortable with the PP reliability right now .....
I set one of the 10ER's up this AM and with the speed controller to finish the routing I had to do, did it do it as well? No. But I was able to finish the project. (I have about 40 specialty boxes I am building for my wife). She's not too happy right now either ....
I will update as I learn something ....

Just a quick question. When it popped did it trip a circuit breaker in the main panel? It sounds to me that you may be describing a 110 VAC short and that will leave a flash mark some place.

No Bill, that was the first thing I checked. The circuit is live and working. The pop and arc came from the PP. I think reible is correct in assuming it has something to do with the power supply (just educated gut feeling on my part). Which would explain a dead panel. Nothing comes on with the master switch.

How well will the Mark V headstock ('83) work as a temp replacement on the mark 7 chassis? They want the PowerPro back, think it is a power supply, but want to check it out. I am trying to get a PP loaner sent while they are working on mine, but I am getting some resistance, so I was thinking, if they don't come through with a loaner, how well will the Mark V headstock work while I am waiting.
I know it will be slower and less power, but will it be somewhat functional?
