These are scams, also called phishing. Some will call pretending to be from either Intel, AMD or Microsoft. The ones who call me always have a broken accent. They are looking for passwords and any banking/financial transactions on your computer. If you allow them to go on your computer as they request, they then will place malware and tracers to find out what you do.

Also, sometimes, you will get advertisements while on a bonafide website that you have viruses. This is another scam either to sell you some software, get on your computer to mess things up stealing information or corrupt the OS.

Any computer on the internet, any smart phone, any eReader or other device connected to the internet is subject to these scams. I have used Bitdefender Internet software for almost 15 years and have had no problems mainly because I don't respond to the ads and banners or emails. Like how do they know if I have a virus or how many I have on my device? They don't have a clue. Be wise and don't respond to these caterers of rubbish and disaster.

Along these lines, but different, I don't answer most phone calls, either the landline or the cellphone. If that caller ID is not in my address book (physical or mental), they don't get a chance to talk. Be smart and keep what is yours as yours.

I get that kind of stuff all the time. I don't respond to any of it. I run ESET NOD32 Antivirus paid, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware paid and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. I have no problems with viruses and as JPG said don't click on thoes links.

See this thread for more on this subject, ie phone calls that you don't want.

Not everyone can use this but those that can should give it a try. I did this back when this thread came out and it is GREAT!!!!!!.
