A while back I bought a set of dado blades. had to find my dado arbor
in this mess I call a shop/garage. Found everything I needed, then I ended up
having emergency surgery 3 weeks latter I had to go in for another surgery.
Long story short I really haven't felt like doing any wood work or much of anything else.
Today I bought a new 10 inch saw blade, figure it was time to change that as well.
so I set up the new saw blade and the dado blades.
I wanted to check them out to make sure everything was good.
The saw blade worked great no problems at all.
I switch over to the dado set, now the dumb stuff. as I was putting the insert in, I noticed I had the chipper blades in backwards.
Quick fix.
Now to try out the dado set, I have never used dado blades on a SS before
so I wanted to see how they worked.
I made a couple of passes in some pine, and then I hear the inside blade scraping against the insert. Uhm I'm thinking maybe the quil slipped back a little.
I reset everything made sure the quil was tightened made a couple of more cuts, same problem.
I checked to make sure the arbor was tight and the nut holdings the blades was tight, again the same thing.
So I figured ok lets move the table out of the way, so I have room to work
that's when I found what was causing the problem.
I didn't tighten the table carriage down, so the quil was not slipping back. The vibration was causing the table to walk forward until the insert touched the side of the blades.
At this point I figured I am not quit ready to get back into the shop yet.

I've done that. When it happens, it is time to stop and think. Sometimes I do things too fast without thinking enought.

Did that last week actually when cutting apart my "if at first you don't succeed" box. Luckily I only did one cut like that and noticed it. It will add to the character of the box. I will try and add that into my thread for the box in the general woodworking forum, it fits the theme of the box anyways.

Done that, and more than once!

Don't feel bad. You're in good company.

Me too! As JPG said "BTDT". Not just once, but frequently enough to wonder- "should I keep on keepin on?"
Most of the time this error results in a less than square saw cut. Not a sawing of the insert.
