Welcome Mike and to the dysfunction here. I have 3 ERS all with the SC. I like them with the SC because on the low belt setting you can take it down to 425 RPM, up to 1100ish RPM and anywhere in between, One is a dedicated drill press and an other a lathe. Without the SC on the low setting you at 700ish RPM. On EBay a rebuild SC runs right around $175. You may find them there cheaper but might need some work but they are a real simple thing to rebuild, not much to them.

OK, I am confused. Low speed without the speed changer is 1750/2=875 High with the SC is 1600ish. A typo I suspect.

Well thanks again, I don't think I could tell the difference between 825ish and 700ish. LOL Man that web site MKCtools sure has some beautiful machines.
If I had one like that I would put it in my family room next to my custom saddle and not use it for anything other than art.

John I am guessing missing info/interpretations here, on the low setting pulley set up it is around 1600RPM max WITH a SC. If with a SC flip the belts we know it is much higher RPMs, cant remember the low-high on that setting since I run the low side pulley, I have no need for the high side.

I figured that, just wanted to get us on the same page since that # is not in MY HEAD. I know it is around there though, I thought a bit lower, but WTFDIK, I run em on the low end, I wish I could go lower then 425rpms sometimes, but not going to pop for Skips DC drive just yet.

You can always get a smaller motor pulley. A 1" should get you down to about 200 RPM's. I don't know if a pulley that small is available for a 5/8" motor shaft. The problem with changing the head stock pulley is that the bore is non standard. However a machinist could make one.

What about belt size or just adjust the motor height?
