Update: Box complete with fully wooden hinge and full wooden clasp. Could pass through a metal detector without worry. Next up, a handle and ways to hold the tools through transport.

Inside done, some extra space for later and need to finish it with poly, oil, or lacquer. It all stays in place in transport.
All wooden latches. And the hinge keeps the lid fully up and steady.

Finally my hand tools have a home.

I have to admit, that hinge is my favorite part of it. Came out perfect in form and function. The band cut dovetails are nice, and the learning process was fun, but the challenge of no metal at all made it a challenge and I learned how to avoid hardware through making my own.

Nice toolbox!

I'm stumped by one detail. The wooden latches that capture the tools appear to rotate on a dowel. So at least one end of the dowel has to be free to rotate. How did you retain them? Perhaps a groove turned on the dowel, and a pin through the mounting block?

Nope, it's actually just an undersized hope with a forced in dowel. They will eventually loosen but not hard to replace or fix. They don't hold to much force, so it won't be too quick. Plus any humidity will only help. Nice and simple. When I do run into an issue I will just drop in a perpendicular pin to both the latch and mounting block to hold the dowel in.
