If You Think Your Computer Is Secure

Post by dusty »

THINK AGAIN

I just received an eye opening email from a trusted source (not to be named) that revealed to me just how vulnerable my computer is. In this email I was provided a list of all my usernames along with all the websites I visit and the associated passwords for those sites. The email even reminded me of two sites that I used to frequent but no longer do. For some of these sites I used passwords that I had long forgotten.

Thirty seven passwords...that is how many there were. All out there for the taking by someone who is computer savvy.

So, Dusty. Did your friend offer any suggestions? That's pretty scary.

Encrypted passwords. There are several applications that do that. Mine is now done by "Trend Micro Maximum Security".

Have you "EVER" clicked on "Remember" logon prompt?

I "NEVER" because that has to be stored somewhere(most likely in browser stuff).

BTW try entering this(from the keyboard). 12345■ Or this üë╚⌡¥♥♦♠• :D

No I was not. I relied on changing my own passwords. I had a routine that I followed faithfully but the email that I received this morning has shown me that while my routine worked it did not protect me (I guess therefore it did not work). My pass words were all visible to those who wanted to look and had the technology.

This thread is about passwords.

What better password characters are there than those which do not have a corresponding 'key' on the keyboard. i.e. not 'normally' entered by depressing a key.

The chart posted above is correct.(AFAIK - I cannot relate to the html codes)

The 'procedure' for manual entry from the keyboard may vary depending upon the faithfulness of current computer makers to the early keyboard interface.

BTW it only works for single byte character codes.

FULL DISCLOSURE - I have not tried this(YET) for an actual password. External processing(log on code) may not be compatible.
