10E / 10ER noticed something and now I'm wondering

Page 6 on the PDF file, page 3 of the E manual discusses the V mounting position. Could not Copy and paste the paragraph.

Nice find!!! That is the 10E preliminary manual that I have an original copy of. Some day I guess I should sit down and completely read all the Model 10 documentation I have.

Interestingly in the "real" 10E manual it just says to mount the motor to the bracket with no mention of orientation.

I also agree that the V allows various motors/motor frames to be used and still have access to the set screw.

I too subscribe to the set-screw access theory.

And more importantly, I see that I 'm not the only one who prefers Everett's original teal-colored annotations! I salted that beautiful version away, right away.

I don't see why one want access to the setscrew in that location. If anything I would think you would want it harder to access like on the older shopsmith units with the set screws puddy-ed to prevent someone from getting at them unless they are cleaned out....... top of quill and ring on quill as examples.

If you need to change tension of the belt you could access them and well that is not how you do it.

Any other theory, I'm not buying this one.

Agreed! The set screws in the bracket are set and forget. Belt tension adjustment uses the set screws in the headstock end of those posts.

How else to you adjust tension on the belt if YOU DONT have a Speed Changer? You lower the motor, or to relieve tension for a pulley change, you raise the motor to take tension off the belt.

Oops, a bit out of sink here on post, yes the HS ones are for the belt tension not the motor mount ones. Sorry for any confusion.
