Actually it's fun when they want to help. My daughter made a nice cross with a lap joint using my dove tail saw. Just to young for any power tools. Right now she is all about playing with my bench cookies, and my son plays with the sockets. But of course their favorite is "feeding the worm" aka, dust collection with the 4" dust collection hose that sucks up any and all sawdust I make. Ah good times.ERLover wrote:The time will come, enjoy the time with the children now, they grow up faster then you grow old.Beave2012 wrote:My need is more time as I have a 3 and 5 year old. Lol.
My want is a miter saw. While i can do it all with what I have, I would love the fast and ease of a chop saw.

I certainly don't need one but, a Powerpro would be sweet.
That, and to be 20 years younger.

Re: What is your one big shop "need" and your one big "want"?
Well I'm strapped for space so that is sure a want to I have. I have no good options to obtain all that I need, so it will likely be want until it isn't. A second, sorry I have to have two wants, is a bandsaw with more resaw capacity, see the first want for why it is a want.
The need is related to the want, I NEED space and most of this summers efforts are relating to some of those issues.
Summery, space is both a need and a want.

Re: What is your one big shop "need" and your one big "want"?
Need: Time.
Want: Time.
Through the modern-day economic magic of Craigslist, not to mention a local online site that auctions off customer-returned items from Amazon and other retailers, I have already amassed an enviable assortment of fine woodworking machinery, at a tiny fraction of retail. Also a goodly assortment of quality vintage hand tools. There is little left that I need, except time.
Machinery that is currently in operation:
* Shopsmith 520 and most all SPT's
* Shopsmith Pro Planer
* Shopsmith jigsaw on power stand
* Dust collection system with Ridgid vac and Dust Deputy.
* Jet air filtration system
* Ryobi 12" CMS
* Shopsmith standalone OPR with 3hp Triton undertable, PC 690 overarm, and Jessem fence
Machinery that is currently sitting in my shop, awaiting assembly, reconditioning, and/or rotary-phase-converter hookup:
* 7.5 hp rotary phase converter
* 1930's Heston & Anderson 6" jointer, 60" bed, 1.5 hp
* 1947 10E with speed changer
* 1952 10ER with speed changer, jointer, and jigsaw
* 1952 DeWalt MBF 9" RAS, in pristine condition
* 1958 DeWalt MBF 9" RAS, very good condition (probably redundant/surplus)
* 1976 DeWalt 3516 14" RAS, 3hp, 24" crosscut capacity
* Brand new Powermatic PM2000 cabinet saw, 5hp
* Brand new Jet 1200 CFM VortexCone dust collector, 2 hp
* Brand new Jet 14" bandsaw, less base & motor.
* Ringmaster for Shopsmith
And that's after giving a couple of good-but-redundant machines to my niece's new hubby.
On top of all that stuff, I do both want and need a good solid woodworking bench (for which I already have good vintage woodworking vises). I want to build it myself! Ideally out of my own dead Ash trees.
Did I mention that I need time to play with all my toys?

The Greatness officially starts
Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

Then get your retired behind into a truck and drive to Ohio. With a month or so of advance notice, I can fill any reasonably-sized trailer chock full of native hardwoods for a buck or two per bf, and have fun doing it.rjent wrote:Want: Hard Wood, I don't care what

P.S. I do not recommend visiting Ohio from December through March, unless maybe you are a cross-country skiing fan. And even then, don't come in March.
