That's not too bad. Here's my 520 miter gauge. I swear on a whole stack of bibles that it was was already like that when I got it, honest. Still works just fine.

Farmer has previously expressed a strong opinion of such shenanigans in the past.

Sadly I too have a notch in my goldie miter gauge. A victim of early inexperience.

Plain steel blades easily slice aluminum as well as carbide.

The notch in my miter gauge does not date back to "the early days" and it is not quite that dramatic but I too have had that experience.

? I don't know what you are refering to. My point in telling this is simply so people double check their setups, and don't work when tired.

9 months out of the shop with mom, long winter, some time at home in the shop for just maintenance and working on an ER redo. Now got a shop set up at moms, 64 years old, wood working, and around machinery all my life, 480 and 4160 voltage electricity, never an Oops. When I started to make saw dust the past 2 weeks, double checking everything, measurements, hands in my view, cutting device in my perefial view as should be, double checking every set up, a bit paranoid, but now back into it, not that I am a Bull in the China Shop, but did not feel relaxed doing what I did naturally.
Yesterday made up a drawer body, simple set up as I posted a tread on, 1/4" straight router bit, 1/4" high, 1/4" from the fence. Bango, done in 5 minutes, glue up today. Cut the drawer face, 45* chambfer on the edge on the router table, sanded and a coat of finish on it tonight. 90*ish here today in the shop and stinking humidity
So Gator, if you think Chris N is not telling the rest of the story you got to listen to Paul Harvey's radio talk show. Now I dont use a SS for a table saw, nor will I ever do, I have a dedicated one, but with that said I can see how it could happen

My apologies to both Chris and Dennis. How I confused the names must be age related. Anyway, I goofed.

I am wondering how Dennis put such a beautiful cut in the mitre gauge. It seems that if the table is tilted to a 45º angle, that the blade may cut into the mitre gauge that way, especially if the blade is set high. Am I close? This may be something to be careful of when setting up the cut.

Anytime you have a wide face on the miter gauge, it can interfere with the blade.
