I buy Rjent's explanation.
Since whirlpools rotate reversed in the southern hemisphere, do clocks also?

Re: Why do Clocks Run Clockwise?
Here's a related question, asked by my 7th-grade science teacher.
Does the Earth rotate clockwise, or counterclockwise?
The teacher didn't much like my answer, because it wasn't "textbook".

Clockwise viewed from the south pole. Counter clockwise viewed from the north pole.BuckeyeDennis wrote:Here's a related question, asked by my 7th-grade science teacher.

To the right viewed from the equator.
What was your answer?

Re: Why do Clocks Run Clockwise?
I asked "Viewed from which pole?" He said it didn't matter. I attempted to demonstrate that it did, by rotating a pencil that represented the Earth. He accused me of reversing rotational direction during viewpoint change. It took me about 5 minutes to show him the light.JPG wrote:Clockwise viewed from the south pole. The textbook said "counterclockwise", period.
Re: Why do Clocks Run Clockwise?
If clocks ran counter-clockwise, they wouldn't be clocks. They would be counter-clocks.

Some of you may want to clock me for posting this in the first place.
