10E Restoration

We agree. ESPECIALLY, on that slanted rip fence screw!

On a side note, my brother got a Model 10, that had been
completely updated. The 10 E tailstock was almost complete,
only missing the "extension table, but had the bracket. I took
a piece of scrap 1X4, attached it to the ext table bracket, and
drilled a bunch of holes into it, to hold lathe chisels. Mounted
the (now) headstock to the left end, so the lathe chisels were
right at hand. (Since it was a Model 10, I couldn't put a sanding
disc and table, for sharpening lathe tools, so I put the tools there.)

I believe the 10E did not come with the extension table at least the very first ones,. You only got the bracket and it was up to the user to make the table out of wood.

Maybe not. I just looked in my 10E 'Owner's Guide' and it mentions the plywood extension table.

You are correct. I have a an original of the very first 10E manual. If you look at the second paragraph in the picture it says SS is working on the 10E manual and in the mean time use this. It also says to use the enclosed post card to order the real manual when it is available. It shows the plywood table top with a part number. You also got a set of studs to attach to the table to mount the fence. The original 10E fence had two holes in the top for this purpose and no hole for the mortise hold down post since they hadn't made that yet.

Could use your help in identifying the part I need to solve the problem of a bent shaft (spindle?) on the headstock on our SS Model 10e. I took a picture of the headstock so you can see the bent shaft. This SS was my father in laws and I would like to surprise my husband and figure out how to correct his. The equipment was bent by our movers, there was a bowl attached to the shaft that my husband was working on when we moved and that must have been given a lot of force to bend rhe shaft. Thanks in advance for your help.
