As I was taking down my Head stock, Jig saw, and getting ready to clean and repaint ( Black). I found many casting web marks and sharp edges , also lots of grinder marks, I'm kind of thinking thats why the lumpe paint was used ? Did SS ever use smooth paint or have a better QC ? MY machine is a 1992 .
Casting web marks = Flashing where the mold went together . My headstock is now clean and smooth! DOW

Wrinkle paint for a brief period(that includes the Mark VII)
Yes I think thick bumpy paint is intentional for that purpose. Not bad "QC", but intelligent allocation of resources($).

as far as Cast Iron goes. (New Lodge, not
the old, machined stuff.) Oh, where it is
machined, the Model 10 is SMOOTH, too.
On my old machine, the one that went through
the fire, when I adapted a Mk5 headrest to it,
I had to grind out the flashing INSIDE the center
hole of the tiebar, just so it would fit.

10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.
Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.
