Shopsmith search engine
I think Shopsmith needs to hire a High School nerd to redesign their search engine. Try to find a Jacobs drill chuck KEY using the search feature, it will send you every where but to a listing for the damn key. It isn't just the key it us most things I try to find to order. Generally I just give up and go to ebsy, find it quick and order it, I guess I will do the same for this. FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Shopsmith search engine
A lot of site searches are weak...
On a side note, odd chuck keys are one of those things I watch for at garage sales. I often pick one up for a buck or less. That way when I am really in need of a certain size key I have available a whole batch of keys, none of which will fit anything I have...

Re: Shopsmith search engine
I've been told that Google makes it easy for a webmaster to embed the Google search engine for local searches. But you can also get the same result on your own. Just tell Google to restrict your search to particular website. In your case, type the following in the Google search bar:
site:shopsmith.com replacement "chuck key"
You can do the same for any website. Just be sure to not use any spaces after "site:"
Click here to see the results of that search. I believe you'll find what you're looking for if you click on the second search hit.

Re: Shopsmith search engine
But why can't I type in drill chuck key into Shopsmiths site and come up with anything even close to what I want? And as I said it isn't just chuck keys, most parts can't be searched at SS site.

Re: Shopsmith search engine
Because the Shopsmith site has a crappy search engine. As do a lot of other sites.jjbuzard wrote:But why can't I type in drill chuck key into Shopsmiths site and come up with anything even close to what I want? And as I said it isn't just chuck keys, most parts can't be searched at SS site.
I'm OK with that for hobby stuff. But for professional stuff, I have no patience for it. For electronic components, I go straight to Digikey, because they have an awesome parametric search engine. Best in the business, and their market share has been growing rapidly. For mechanical stuff I start with McMaster, for the same reason. But in their case, once I find what I need, I'm likely to shop around for a better price.
Perhaps Admin could check out that Google search-engine option.
