Set of plans for the forum

Post by tom_k/mo »

I just finished working up a set of plans for an upcoming woodworking project and thought I'd share it with the forum. One of my hobbies is shooting black powder rifles and pistols (yes I do own the dragoon in my avatar). Due to the amount of effort involved in loading a black powder pistol or revolver, a loading stand comes in handy when at the range. Some time ago I saw a nice looking loading and display stand on the web and I copied the idea and came up with this:

I made a full set of working plans, 9 pages and fully dimensioned. It's a single PDF file (6.75Mb) and you can download it HERE if you like. Modeling was done in Google SketchUp.

Nice work,Tom. Looks like you are an advanced SketchUp modeler. I have been working on it for a while, but not as accomplished as you. Thank you for posting the plans. I know you spent a lot of time on them.
Do you have any others you have done?

George, Thanks for the compliment. I have a background in CAD/CAM so learning SketchUp came pretty easily. I have a set almost completed for a wooden jellybean dispenser that I can post shortly. I also have a set made up of the gumball dispenser (that was on the Shopsmith site) and a second version of a gumball dispenser I saw elsewhere. I'm gearing up for toys for the grand-kids. :) I'm working on a set of plans for a second type of pistol loading stand and a shooting stand for rifles also.

If you've already downloaded the PDF you might want to do it again, I added a parts layout diagram for cutting the entire project out of a 4' 1x6"

Jelly bean dispenser? Gumball machine? Looks like my project list just filled up for the winter.

I just started fooling around with Sketch Up with cabinets for my "garage-mahal" based off of the now defunct Hot Rod by Sauder cabinet line. I did 2-D with Visio for network/computer room documentation. I'm really impressed with the functionality of the free download, the graphics available from the 'net, and the training that is available.

What I've done is attached. And, being a guy, I didn't use any of the training yet. The bench and cabinet above it are built.

And thanks for posting your plans. They are incredible.

Tom, or anyone interested in SketchUp... on Finewoodworking.com there is a blog called "Design, Click, Build" in which some experts show all kinds of tips and tricks on using SketchUp. I have picked up some very useful info there.

To go along with the pistol loading stand, here's a set of plans I drew up for a Black Powder Rifle shooting/Loading stand, for those times when you're shooting at a location that does not provide range benches or tables to shoot and load from. It has places to hold all your patches, patch lube, percussion caps, bullets, a range rod and short starter, yet is small enough to carry easily.

The plans are a 7 page fully dimensioned PDF file, that's 6.6Mb in size. You can download it HERE if you like.

Is that all done in the demo version?
I can't justify to pay the $495!
