I started a project where the door between the garage/shop and the house will have some metal pegboard panels installed. They will provide some additional storage and ready access to things that I often go the shop for from the house(attached garage).

All the stuff will have to "thin" so it will effect egress and the panels are on the hinge side of the door. I have some "regular" peg board hooks but since this is a swing door I'm worried about movement and things falling down.

In a shopnotes magazine they showed these talon hooks which lock in place. I've not seen them in real life but the magazine and the web site make them look pretty attractive.

Has anyone used these and are the worth the added cost? In my case using them on a door might make since?????????

In the next few days I hope to get out of the house and check them out in real life, until then I have to live vicariously by your wisdom.

Ed, I do know of the pieces you refer and have a few of the clips that lock, but have not used them.
However, from time to time I do use hot melt plastic (not the glue but the poly sticks) to fill in and around the hole or holes where the hooks are.
I've not tried them in a situation where glue blobs are subjected to constant horizontal pull, but I've had a peg board sheet fall and none of the hooks came loose.
Gluing the pegs does eliminate the usefulness of easily repositioning but I find that once I get something in a place I seldom revise where I have it.
Just a thought.

The hot glue sure would be cheaper!

Some years back I wanted to put some small screw drivers on a peg board rack. The smallest rack was WAY to big so I hot glued some washer on the tops and that allowed the smaller screw drivers to be mounted that way. I had forgotten about that.......

I have been moving things about on about 80% of my peg board this summer. Better organized but remembering where the new location is not always fun. Shop is in such a turmoil of change now that I find I have less time for woodworking and have to concentrate on organization and finishing up already started projects. So many unfinished projects!!!!!!!!

Anyway thanks for the reminder!

I will give it a try and post some pictures of the project in a few days/weeks.

I use the hot glue approach as well. Hit on it after having a fit of frustration with the hooks falling out every time i would grab something. If you need to re-position the hook, just heat the glue up again with the tip of the glue gun. Easy peazy!

The door is metal and the pegboard is metal. I like that because magnetic properties can be useful.

This is just a test run of putting some things that might reside there to see how well things stay in place and how in the way things might get.....

Have to run out to try a Whopperrito (is that how it is spelled??). Celebration of me returning from Nam 45 years ago. It helps with the PSD from the last week or so too.

I've bought several sets of pegboard hooks at HD that come with little plastic retainer clips. They work pretty well. In the photo below, at right, I hung one sideways on a hook so that you can see the cross section.

Pegboard memories...

Growing up, I had a friend next door and we liked to play tennisball floor hockey in his basement (this was the Boston suburbs in the late 60s and early 70s -- the hay days of Bobby Orr and The Big Bad Bruins).

Right behind where we put up one of the hockey nets, my friend's dad had hung a piece of pegboard where he had neatly arranged numerous screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, wrenches etc. He even went to the trouble of tracing each tool's outline on the pegboard so you could see exactly where each tool went.

Well, those tool outline came in handy. About once per floor hockey game, one of our tennisball "slapshots" would go astray and would smack that pegboard above the net, causing some or all those tools to come clattering to the ground and we would spend the next several minutes picking them up and putting them back in place!
