Has anyone considered cutting 2 or 3 or maybe even 4 inches off the legs of a Mark V to lower it to about waist high for us people a little shorter than 6' 2 or 3. I am 5' 9" and find it just doesn't feel right with a table almost chest high when cutting 1/4" stock. At one time I made a step to stand on that was about 4" tall and it worked well except, it was always in the way when not in use. So it's gone. Just food for thought?
I haven't really thought it through, but it looks like it could be done.

Many discuss this "problem". I am 5' 9" also, but don't find it a problem, but, I don't know any better as I have never run any other wood working equipment.
My only observation is that it would make your casters not fit (if the bottom is cut off) and the top won't fit if the top is cut.

I'm 6'2" so I don't have a problem but I know others (I think Dusty) has talked about this.
If I was going to do it I would build something like the under the SS cabinet that many have pictured here. I would put on lockable castors and mount the Shopsmith directly on to it, rather than trying to use the shortened SS legs.
I believe a great cabinet could be fashioned to hold the Shopsmith, one that holds all the extra tools, SPTs, and common fixtures used by Shopsmith workers. If I were going to do it I would design it to be to use the lift assist. That would require some sections of the cabinet that would have openings and things.

I have never given any thought to cutting the legs but I have given serious consideration to mounting it on a lower cabinet like affair. I am 5'7" and do not like the table nearly chest high.
However, it can't be too bad given how long I have been using it at stock height.

The more I look at it, I may buy a set on eBay at a good price I hope and do some playing around. I do believe the casters could be relocated up a few inches. Might require a little welding and maybe a little cutting but all I have is time. The garbage truck comes twice a week just in case.
