Smart Meter----------- who has them?
Our electrical company just let us know that a "smart meter installation is coming to your address soon".
We were "upgraded" the smart grid not long ago, questionable upgrade in our experience but they they say it is better.........
According to the flyer there are more then 2 million smart meters installed across northern IL with that number going to over 4 million when all homes and businesses are done by the end of 2018.
I'm just wondering if this is happening everywhere or are we just lucky?

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
I am curious what a 'smart' meter does that a 'dumb' one does not.
Maybe being close to Chicago has something to do with it.
Sounds like a bunch of wind to me.

Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
Our neighborhood had them installed several years ago. A person no longer needs to go to each house to read the meter personally each month. The employee can just drive down the street and electronically take the reading from each meter through radio frequency waves. You still have the ability to read the meter yourself by looking at the meter. The only change is you no longer will wonder who that person is walking across your yard.
Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
I have a smart meter. It is nice for me cuz my meter is inside my enclosed patio addition that is locked. No having to worry about the hassles of that now.

Still have a monthly visitor here.
However my water meter and my gas meter are apparently 'smart'. Well they are read by data collectors by rf anyway.

Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
Some are wireless to the utilities and read on a computer and some are read with a wand at the location.

Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
I was confused, we have had them for decades, read by computer via a signal sent back to the utility. I think WeEnergies was the fore front on them.

Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
We've had them here in Rock Island OK for two or three years. The meter sends info back every 15 minutes and you can get online and track usage. There is a weekly email telling energy dollars spent, not including taxes, fees, fuel adjustments etc.

We're in the boonies. Our electric co. Installed smart meters a few years ago. Gotta save them a bundle in labor and gasoline and vehicle costs.
No change in our bill, though.
