I do not know about that, as both my gas and water have smart meters.GoNavy wrote:What are dogs goings to do for fun NOW, chasing meter readers around has got to be more fun then some lame neighborhood cat...lol..guess they still have the gas guy.

Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
Here the water meter has been linked for years already. The electrical and gas are not but I think they have a person who reads the electrical every month while the gas is read every two months with an "estimate" between readings.
Here is a link to what a "smart meter is" according to ComEd:

Well it is a digital readout and they will know when you loose power so the can "fix it" faster. Service minded or revenue driven??

Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
Here where I live in Calif. the local energy company installed them. it has been 3 or 4 years now. the only difference I have seen is the fact they no longer have to come out and read the meter. By doing this I am sure they were able to cut a few jobs upping their profits. And they raised the rates to cover the costs of the meters so they say. However the energy rates keep going up. so This past spring I went solar. I started right before the high heat started, we stay in the high 90s up to 115 for 3 months out of the year
Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
We had them installed in Glen Ellyn about a year ago. You can log into your account and see usage real time.

Ours was installed last year. No change in bill.

Pensacola must be way ahead of the curve. We have had these meters on gas, electricity and water for about 6 or 7 years. I do miss those annoying readers coming into the yard. Both the electricity and gas are read by satellite, the water meter is read by a truck driving by. Can I read my smart meters, not the electrical one. It simply blinks a bunch of zeros. Maybe, if I stood watch, I might find out when it is read. LOL Welcome to the 21st century.

Re: Smart Meter----------- who has them?
We have the smart meters. They seem to work just fine. If anything my bill seems to have come down, but that might be fuel cost adjustments.
I like the smart meter because you can read it directly. When I get a bill I can go out look at the meter and see if it agrees with the bill within a reasonable range.
