After removing the upper assembly(tubes and headstock) the base is much lighter. To really get into the caster stuff inverting it makes it much easier.

Thanks so much for this post. Unfortunately I can no longer do what you did regarding the disassembly of the upper parts to get the base where it can be turned over. I am thinking about getting a couple of 1/4 steel step plates made that would be about 3 or 4 inches wider on each side of the base for stability. Like a drop axle on a Hot Rod. This would also allow the base to come as close to the floor as you would want. Unfortunately this option would not allow the unit to drop completely to the floor but would be a workable compromise.

After releasing BOTH tilt lock levers, the entire upper assembly can be lifted off the base. Easier done with four hands.
