I picked up a couple of Shopsmith Mack V 500's online the other day. The tubes, and some of the (BS) table surface is slightly rusty. What's the best way to clean them up?
Any other maintenance I should do? Their belts might be a bit old, and I'm sure they need some lube... The motors didn't want to spin at first, but they revved up in a minute. I know not to change the speed dial without it running...

Read the maintenance threads. Lube is essential, as is proper alignment.

Nice finds, I use mineral spirits with a green scotch brite pad for light rust and on the oxidized aluminum. The Johnsons paste wax. Heavy rust, penetrating oil and various grits of wet and dry aluminum oxide.

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.
