I did more Google, it is Master back then, and Mistress is the counter part, even though by todays standards/definitions both have negative conitasions.

I was taught by my Mother who thought of herself as being very proper in southern etiquette taught me that young unmarried man was master and young unmarried women were mistress.

Those terms got distorted over time and today are used only in negative ways. Of course there are those that declare Mr. or Mrs. as being equally bad. And heaven forbid someone uses the term esquire or reverend. And no self respecting doctor would think of using the term dr. Without following it with half the alphabet.

Today's titles seem to be whatsup, dude, bro or some other slang.

In effect we are letting the less qualified teach us language instead of the qualified teach us proper speech. (Substitute less qualified for idiots (being PC) )

I wonder how long it will be until accepted etiquette will be eating using our hands instead of forks, spoons and knives. As it is eating with the mouth open is very acceptable to some. To be nothing is more disgusting than watching a beautiful young woman shovel food into her mouth and proceed to chew it with her mouth open. Looks so attractive and refined.

Proper etiquette requires at least 3 curse words and a "You idiot" after a bad cut
