Upgrading to urethane tires on Band Saw
Hey folks,I'm upgrading my 11" band saw tires to urethane. Any tips for cleaning and prepping the the wheels will will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Getting all the glue off is a pain in the neck, for sure. Eventually I did something I probably should not have and used a wire brush in a hand-held power drill.

OK, a LONG time ago, I saw a video on YouTube,
about someone trying to re-crown a set of tires
on his (not Shopsmith) bandsaw. (Crowning, is making
the tire thinner at the sides of the wheel, and thicker
at the center, so the blade tracks to the high point.)
This guy just happened to have a Real Shopsmith
(Cast Iron based) and mounted the wheel on a spindle,
and attached it to a vise (I think) mounted on the table.
Used the sanding disc to shape it.
Guy was able to set the angle, in both directions, to
shape the tire.
I'm wondering (the reason I'm posting) is it possible to
mount a bandsaw wheel on the table, and use the sanding
disc to remove all the nasty stuff?

Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.
Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

I think that would be a real project, then to be able to take of an equal amount to keep the wheel round, and not clog the sanding media with gooy adhesive.

Sorry Skou but I have to disagree and strongly advise against crowning or using the disc sander on the Shopsmith band saw wheels.
As has been discussed many times, the Shopsmith band saw is a different animal. The upper wheel is designed to be run canted and, accordingly the rim is slanted at the opposite angle of the designed cant. The autotrack bearing keeps the blade from running off the back of the rim. It works. Thus, there is no need for crowning. It would just put less bearing surface for the blade at best. At worst, the blade might run off the front. And using the disc sander, even if one could match the correct angles (while not knocking off the back rim), is going to lead to an out of round wheel or changing its diameter or likely both. DON'T DO IT.

The 'kicker' is that lip on the back side of the wheel(s).
BTW both wheels are 'beveled' and 'lipped'.

Thanks algale! I think I might try using some acetone fist to see if it breaks down the adhesive.

Yea Goo Gone is boss, get it at Wally world for under $3 bucks and is amazing. They have in the last few years broke off to specialties Goo Gone for kitchen, grease etc...just get the original Goo Gone adhesive remover still the best stuff ever. Rip off the tires spray on Goo Gone and let it sit for a few minutes then just wipe it off, may need a second apply if there is a lot of residue, but it's pretty easy spray and wipe application. Been using this stuff for years, it always works, just melts away that gummy stuff like magic...
