Just so far off the charts!!! I am often in awe of fine pieces. I often hear from fine craftsmen "Oh, it's easy, anybody can do it". I guess if you are a master craftsman with an eye for exquisite detail, yea, sure, it's easy! For us mere mortals, not so much.
Yes, they should be displayed in a gallery!

Be well,

On PBS there was a series with a Turner, we would watch, one was he went to the Annual meeting of turners competition, that one was in Ohio, a guy made a turned Lamp Shade so thin it was like paper thin, it was like, when is too thin and it just desinergrates?

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them. :)

I do a lot of turning. Never seen anything like that before. Beautiful! If only you had made a video!

Oh. Right. I guess that helps me understand how it's done. I should be able to go knock a few out tonight in the shop no problem.

NOT!

Awsome job!
Here's one instructional on doing barley twists, although the initial layout portion skipped the angle that the tape was wrapped. As I understand it (haven't done them, but saw a very good demo live a couple years ago), you want to have the diagonal line intersecting the horizontal and vertical lines that you draw on the spindle.

Edit: Doh! Helps to include the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBGaFR5ZxuE

Really impressive. How did you turn the rim?

I think we are 'seeing' an optical illusion?

I considered that but the 'illusion' remains even when the optics changed, on both pieces.

I am wondering if the glue-up caused this effect when the material thinned.
