You may well not log off but when you shut down the forum shows you to be "no longer on-line". That is, your name is removed from the list of register users on-line. In fact, you are gone as I write this.

Re: The BOTS Outnumber the Active Members
I use Fire Fox per JPG, love it, I just close it, shut the computer down, the next morning when I fire up the lap top, click on FF, it ask me if I want to go to my previous sites, hit yes, all open, logged in except Gmail, I have to click on that site, which is there, to open it.
B4 I take a JPG hit here, sometimes it is the "same A M", from shut down to wake up!!!

With regard to logging in, I don't believe that it makes difference which version is being used. I just exercised all four versions and they all react the same. If you simply shut down (do not logout), the next time you return to the website youwill be logged in automatically. With all four versions, if you log out you will be required to log in. You can browse without logging in but when browsing you cannot post (and I think the search function is impaired).JPG wrote:Which version you using?joedw00 wrote:No I don't have to log in.JPG wrote:

It might be worthwhile to review the Manage "Remember Me" login keys function. You find this in the same location where you edit your profile or edit your signature.

Re: The BOTS Outnumber the Active Members
I regularly click on a Favorites Link to Shopsmith Forum and browse the forums without logging in.
If I choose to reply to a post while browsing, when I click on it (Post a Reply) the login screen appears, and the Topic Review Box opens and I type my reply. If I leave the screen active and continue browsing, then I show up as an active member on-line and my name is displayed.
If I do login and do not close that window but move on to other computer programs such as at work, the forum will show me as on-line yet I am not actively reading content and my not again until lunch break, or after work.
Equally, if I do not login and choose not to post anything (which would popup the login screen) but to just keep reading, and researching what others have posted, I may have a screen open all day and never show logged in at all, but the Guest connection, still represents an active member.
I suspect a number of folks likely do the same thing.

Re: The BOTS Outnumber the Active Members
Interesting!
If I am inactive for a spell(duration not determined precisely), I need to logon again when I return! ???
Maybe remember me is the secret. Remember me is something I am reluctant to do since I am not sure what all it does. My thoughts are it remembers my login password. ???
Somebody enlighten me!
