Traveling Academy - Fort Worth, Texas

Post by cdmclain »

Anyone attending the Traveling Academy being held in Ft. Worth this coming week? I had to miss the last go around due to work, but looking forward to these. Attending all three days. I have read the descriptions of the class content, can anyone expand on the classes and what I should expect. Thanks.

Imagecdmclain,
I will knot be there (I live in WA), but I can help you with the class itinerary. Day 1 consists mostly of direction on the proper maintenance of your Mark V and how to do the alignments. If I remember correctly, Rick finishes up on those subjects and starts in on the various functions of the Mark V. Day 2 consists mostly of a continuation of the basic use of all the features of the Mark V, and of the accessories and SPT's that you can use with it. Day 3 is for turning. Rick has hand outs that you will get, but I recommend bringing a pad of paper and a pen. Rick will give you a lot of information that you will want to record.:)

CD, I usually attend the classes in Cowtown, but can't make it this year. You should learn a lot and have plenty of fun. Just take a lot of notes.

Just one word to describe the Academy Classes that I have attended the past two days, "Fantastic". Rick Davis is a wealth of knowledge and full of energy, never a dull moment. I made numerous notes on hints and tips throughout both days, cannot wait to put them to use. Seeing all the equipment and accessories in person is very helpful, especially watching the Incra Ultimate Fence/Router System demonstration. Basic I and II classes are highly recommended. The class on turning is tomorrow and should be great. Shopsmith keep the classes coming!

Fort Worth Class Great!

Post by rdonr »

I was at the Fort Worth Traveling Academy with Carry this weekend. I second his enthusiastic recommendation. What a great class! Mr. Davis is a very good teacher. I took literally 100 pages of notes (OK, they are half sized pages) and still didn't get down everything.

I am pretty much a newbie to woodworking. I made a point to write down questions over the last 3 months or so. I had a list of about 30 items to ask pertaining to Shopsmith alignment, maintenance and use, from trivial to significant. I think Rick covered all but two of them during the class. Of course, he answered the last two as soon as I asked.

What an inspiring weekend!
