Re: New user from Poland
All that will depend upon what motor he has.
If he has to use a step down transformer, that can limit start up power.

What a nice welcome ! Now I`m sure I`ll fell good in here - you are a great community I see.
Belive me or not but yesterday was "my first time" with Shop Smith. Try do find out your memories of that day - how was ?
I have 500 mod from 1990:
- lathe
- sander
- drill press
- horizontal bore
- table saw
- band saw
- biscuit joiner
and you know what ? I fell in love!
Unfortunately in here (Poland) there is no parts / accesory / machines from Shop Smith. (thank God we have nice stuff like saw blades etc.) I had to order my SS in England ( 1200 $ - so as like I see your prices are very nice! To show you how much is that my monthly salary is 500$. Next time when you think you have high prices for woodworking stuff - think twice
)
* reible - you should see my face: it was like: ooo we have some guy from Poland over here..!
... ooo , it was a nice joke!
Once again thanks for such a great welcome from you! Now we can say international
I hope you will understand me well - I never learned English - it`s just came to my brain so that the reason why I apologize for my misteakes
Have a nice day for all of you!(in Poland we have beatifull morning 07.12 and -2 deg celcius) First frozened windows in my car.

In the first post he said he had got it from England, so it should be a 230 volt motor.JPG wrote:All that will depend upon what motor he has.

I`m new user of SS (Mark V, mod: 500) from Poland (in here nobody heard about SS, I got mine from England) Few days ago I`ve ordered bandsaw and biscuit joiner - maybe today I`ll get it from UPS.
I`m glad to find this forum - so much info in one place!
Sorry for my english
1st question: can I change speed when motor is powered on or I could do that only when it`s power off ?

Re: New user from Poland
Pepis,
many here have extras of SS stuff, SS Home Site who Sponsors this Forum, AKA the MS/ Mother Ship, frowns on posting things for sale here. A Personal Message/PM is okay.
I dont know what shipping cost is to Poland but if you need something ask. Then a PM can get to you.
In the past I had things I got with my collection of SS, and knew I would not use, so off to a member here that needed them and would use them.
Here in the States on the Internet we have EBay and Craigs List to sell/buy items but I dont do that to sell SS things, I just buy there if I need something. I save my SS stuff I dont need/use for members here.
A family kinda thing for me.

rpd wrote:Pay attention Michael,ERLover wrote:Welcome!!! SS Forum now has gone International!!it is always nice to get a new member, but there are many here that are "International". I have seen at least two from Australia, one from South Africa, several from Great Britain. one from Slovakia, and many of us from Canada.
I was a where from Canada, I was not of the other Countries, never knew or they never said. I did not mean to offend any of them. If I did, to all I apologize, and to the Canadians if I did, same, I apologize, love my fishing trips and ski trips up there.
Brings back a memory, a friend has a cabin on White Fish lake in Ontario, I had the prevlage to use every year, on any given day you see more boats with WI, USA registration on them, so one evening on a Perch and Walleye reef/hot spot a bunch of locals are there too.
We are close, 10ft apart anchored, one sez to me, "so you dont have any lakes in Wisconsin"? LMAO.

Re: New user from Poland
* Yeah I know your time (I have a Casio Riseman - it shows me that when I write posr in here probably you are sleeping
)
* My Mark V has a 230V motor
* I`m interesting of buy some extras - honestly those are my first steps in woodworking. I have a lot of experiens in ATV logging etc, acctualy I work in big sawmill (my job is to by wood and organize transport - pine and oak)
My grandfather had little workshop many years ago but I have only few chisels and working table (I guess it has 70 years old) I would be very glad if you could offer me some secondhand stuff on PM - maybe transport won`t be so bad.
I`m looking for everything what begginers should have
Honeslty I have 3 lathe chisels (1 of them is broken, I need to fix it), 1 normal china chisel, 1 old clamp, some hammers and screwdrivers etc.
I didn`t pay money to US/Canada/Australia but I think you have PayPal od smth ?
EDIT:
Did someone have pdf of "Shopsmith Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone" ?
