Joiner Cutter Head Washers

I believe a washer under a screw head provides at least two advantageous benefits.

They distribute the force over a greater area when the washer od is greater than the screw head.

Also they provide a surface for the screw head to rub against as it is tightened.

In the case of the jointer wedges, they provide a harder surface for the head to rub against. As I recall the washers are barely larger than the cap screw heads.

My jointer has the washers as well. I remember because I panicked when I dropped one on the floor and it rolled into the Twilight Zone! Are they needed? I'll never know!

Same thing, when I redid the I bought, either I missed one or it was missing.
My first SS redo and the joiner. Many questions here and of course great answers, never asked about the one joiner set screw without a washer though.
I am confused but never asked or Googled it? Is it spelt Jointer, or Joiner???
Spell check brings up joiner. I dont always trust SC though as you all know.
If joiner, why not jointer? You joint boards together!! Or is the jointing the action of doing it, and joining the boards is the prep work? Sounds the same to me.

Correcto Mondo, the washers on mine that I pulled tonight are about 64th larger, and at best, and that is a real at best, a 32nd larger then the head. Re thought, 32nd diam would be 64th around the screw.
Where is Dusty when you need him??? To get the Mic out?

Thanks for the clarity on that. I have seen it both ways on different Forums.
I would tend to agree!! Then you had the old Craftsman that called them a Jointer/Planer. I go to the jointer to joint an edge. I go to my work/glue table to edge join boards.

A joiner is also a person who puts things together from pieces of wood. This from Wikipedia.

Tip: Back to the topic. Like the screws that hold the table insert for instance, I have found through the years on my old,"Goldie", any fastener made of steel and screwed into SS cast aluminum will most certainly try to "Seez" over time. I think I posted this some where before but I use "Never-seize" on the fastener and haven't had a problem since. I have a 1/2 pint can that I have had since 1952 when it disappeared from a Army machine shop.
Also use it on all the allen screws steel on steel
