Will The DC3300 Keep Up With Sawstop?

I will be purchasing a Sawstop very soon and I'm wondering if my DC3300 will keep up with it? Not sure if it would be ok to go from 4" down to 2.5"? Not sure if the cfm is enough on the DC3300 for the Sawstop? I don't really want to sell my DC3300 for something with a 4" hose if I don't have to.

I am not sure what SS recommends if anything for the MK V but given the MK V and the Saw Stop are both 10" saws they both should create about the same dust for any given cut. Also look inside the Saw Stop cabinet and see what size the hose is from the shroud around the blade to the 4" port on the cabinet. I have a Powermatic PM2000 with a 4" port but the hose inside the cabinet is only 2 1/2".

When the DC3300 first came out there was an option to change it from three 2.5" ports to one 4" port. Shopsmith later removed that option because the DC3300 does not provide sufficient velocity for the air going through a 4" diameter pipe. You need to understand that the smaller the diameter of the hose the higher the velocity of the air through it and that is what is also needed for the Sawstop, not just CFM. The Sawstop has an enclosed area below the blade. If the velocity of the air going through the 4" port is too low, then the sawdust just drops to the floor of the saw base and you get a big pile of sawdust inside the saw. Using a reducer on the 4" port will not help either. You need the high velocity right as the air enters that 4" port in order for sawdust to adequately be removed and not fall to the floor.

So the answer you probably do not want to hear is yes you will probably need a bigger dust collector. However, try the DC3300 and see after making the necessary modifications.

I would have to agree that it probably won't keep up with the Sawstop. I have both the 3300 and a harbor freight model. We use the 3300 for the CNC and it will keep up fine. For the bigger tools you need the greater cfm to keep up. If you are adding an over blade collection system to the Sawstop you will absolutely need the bigger unit.

The Harbor Freight model is the one I'm thinking of getting. I really only have room for one. My concern with the HF is I read they are loud. How would you compare it to the 3300 for noise level?

I would have to agree that it probably won't keep up with the Sawstop. I have both the 3300 and a harbor freight model. We use the 3300 for the CNC and it will keep up fine. For the bigger tools you need the greater cfm to keep up. If you are adding an over blade collection system to the Sawstop you will absolutely need the bigger unit.

I am sure the 3300 is quieter than the HF unit. I think as the cfm goes up so will the noise. Since I wear ear protection pretty much all the time when in the shop it isn't an issue for me.
