New to SS, need some help

Post by jvander »

After searching CL obsessively for weeks, I found a SS I liked. It was a 2 hour drive, but I think it was worth it. I've spent the last two days trying to figure out what all this stuff is and does. Along with the SS, I got a bandsaw, belt sander, and 7 plastic tubs full of stuff. I've figured out what most of the goodies are, but can use a little help. Some of this stuff may not be SS related, as I've already found other woodworking tools mixed in.

So what is this stuff?

Welcome!

The 4 parts on the left are alignment gauges for the 520 fence system. On the photo below I have that listed as item 1.

Item 2 is part of an Incra fence system. I don't see the other part that it attaches to but if you look up the original Incra Jig you can see what is missing.

Item 3 is the Incra right angle jig. It goes to on part no. 2 for doing things like box joints.

Item 4 looks like a stop for the Incra fence.

Item 5 is an Incra rule, it might fit the top of the fence part 2.

Item 6 could be a pen turning mandrel, if not I have no second guess.

Item 7 is a hold down but I'm not sure what for. It looks like something I've seen but nothing comes to mind in the shopsmith or Incra world.

#6 is indeed a pen turning mandrel from PennState. If it has a 5/8" bore it will fit the ShopSmith, otherwise it will screw on to a spindle of of other lathes, can't tell from the picture. Bob

#7 appears to be a miter gauge hold down but not a Shopsmith item IMHO
#6 is a pen turning mandrel for the SS butt it can be used on a regular lathe with a SS tailstock chuck arbor.

Thanks everyone for your help! I got a lot of stuff with my SS, but it's hard trying to figure it all out. It looks like the boxes contain parts from other machines as well as all the parts that have been upgraded from this SS. I want to organize everything and get rid of unnecessary stuff, but I also don't want to throw away anything I'll regret later.

My SS has been through a couple of different owners now, and someone at sometime spent a lot of money on accessories.
